When to Read
Only if you're brand new to product. Otherwise skip it; the core idea is solid but repetitive and increasingly dated in the AI era.
Main Takeaway
Great products come from empowered teams handed problems to solve, not feature factories handed roadmaps. A good idea, but stretched thin and showing its age.

Marty Cagan's bible on how the best tech companies build product, the empowered-teams-over-feature-factories canon every PM keeps citing. I didn't finish it, and that tells you most of what you need to know. The core idea is good, but the book is too basic for me and it keeps repeating the same product points over and over. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere new and it never did. It also feels dated now. So much of how we build product is being rewritten by AI, and a book this canonical starts to read like a snapshot of a world that's already shifting under it. If you're JUST starting out in product, there's real value here and it could be worth your time. For everyone else, I'd skip it. I put it down and didn't look back.
